gabriel

Hallooooooo! Arrrooooo! My name is Gabriel, but you can call me Gabe. Mommy calls me "Relly-Belly" (you know, from "Gabriel-ly"). Mommy and Daddy adopted me from the West Deer Dog Shelter in September, 2000. Here's my story!

My favorite things in life are cuddles, cuddles, and more cuddles. I love being picked up for cuddles and kisses! When I am not getting cuddles, I love sleeping! Oh yeah... the best places are Daddy's lap (if not the lap, then Daddy's chair works great). The bed is also prime sleeping territory. I sleep with Mommy and Daddy every night. In the morning they wake me up and I move to the couch!

It is a real toss up to say if cuddles or sleeping is the BEST because there is also FOOD to consider! I am a real chow hound. Gimmee those bonies... love them bonies! Dog food is good, too! Works for me!!

Oh yes, and I love trips to the pet store. Mommmy and Daddy take me to the pet store to get bonies and to get my picture taken. Or we just walk around and visit with the people and other puppies in the store. I also like to visit with my friends in the bird cages. Love them birds! Oh Boy, life doesn't get much better than this!

Gabe's Story

I was abandoned at the West Deer Dog Shelter (near Pittsburgh, Pa) in June, 2000. No one really knows where I
came from or why I was left there. For that matter, no one knows how old I am. It was pretty scarey being left alone.
Everything I knew and loved before was now gone in a flash! Real scarey, I tell you!

Well, now you see, Mommy and Daddy lost their dog, Tipster, in July 2000. That was really tough for them, so they came to the shelter to help a dog who needed a home. Most of my playmates at the shelter were really big dogs, so right away, Mom and Dad narrowed their choice to me or this really cute and bouncy puppy.

As soon as Mommy and Daddy walked in the door, I ran over to Daddy. I kept saying "take me", "take me", "oooohhhh take me P-L-E-A-S-E". Now I was a bit nervous since the shelter lady told Mom and Dad that I could be as much as 8 to 10 years old and that I had a bad heart murmur. That did not sound too good!

Nonetheless, Daddy and Mommy did pick me. It didn't take too long to do the "official paperwork" then off in the car we went.

When I first got home, everything was really strange. I didn't know my way around the house and yard. However,
things improved quickly. There were bunnies in the yard for me to smell!

Now there were a few problems... I didn't like it one bit when Mommy and Daddy went to work in the morning. I cried and cried and ate up a few door jams. Dad fixed the door jams. I still cry a bit when left alone, but now that I know for sure that Mommy and Daddy are coming back, it is not so bad anymore!

Mommy and Daddy also took me to the vet. The vet thinks that I am under 5 years old and that my heart murmer is stable and nothing to worry over! So, it is a really good thing that that nonsense did not keep Mommy and Daddy from adopting me.

I had a few health problems after I came home. I had a nasty time with a urinary infection, which is now all better. I also had these odd episodes which were differnt each time. My friend, Dr. F, thought it was a disc problem in my back. Another vet specialist, thought it was a virus in my spinal cord. I had a spinal tap and the works, but no one could find the problem. Well, you might think this is not good, but the truth is, that I have not had any more "attacks" and I am feeling really grand!

How I Got My Name

The good people at West Deer Dog Shelter named me Gabriel after the Angel. Yes, my personality is angel like for sure, but that is not the reason. No, not the reason. You see, the angel Gabriel is known for "Gabriel, blow your horn", right? Well, I don't bark. I howl! Yup, the genuine, honest-to-goodness, real Beagle bay. I have it down to a science. I only use it when my brother Doogan scares me, or when I see a bunny!

Gabriel's FAQ

Isn't Gabriel a girl's name?

Ans: NO WAY! See how I got my name, above!

Do you like to go hunting?

Ans: NO WAY! Absolutely not! I try to make friends with bunnies and birds in my back yard, and I like to go on long walks with Daddy, instead!

Oh, will you just look at that face?

Ans: Don't let my sad face fool you. There is a happy little doggie hiding behind my sad face! Mommy calls it my "Beagle Face".

What is your favorite movie of all time?

Ans: Has to be "Lady and the Tramp". I really like "Lassie" a lot, too! But, "Lady and the Tramp" is definately my top pick. I love to watch the TV screen and tilt my head back and forth when that cute little cocker spaniel is on!
